Lachine mixes two very different housing stocks: homes and plexes built near the canal between the 1920s and 1940s, on land filled in after the canal was widened, and post-war bungalows further south, on streets laid out in the 1950s–60s. The historic canal-side fill causes more differential settling, which means more cracked drain joints.
